So sad to hear of Nimoy's passing.

I have seen this ep of ST-TAS and it does have a root in ST - TOS. There was an episode, "Journey To Babel" in which we meet Spock's parents. His mother, Amanda mentioned Spock had a pet Achayla as a child. She described it as a huge teddy bear.

TAS allowed us to see just what this creature was in action. It wasn't unlike Old Yeller in a sense as the events in this episode play out; young Spock chooses the Vulcan path (and a step towards maturity/manhood) while at the same time losing his beloved pet.

Not to mention him surviving the timeline and taking his place on Kirk's crew!

Ok, so Yesteryear would be either a prequel or sequel to Journey to Babel. Nice.

It's also a sequel to the TOS episode City on the Edge of Forever, which is widely regarded as the best episode of the original series. That episode introduces the Guardian of Forever.

Ok, that was the ep I was thinking of.
