In 1996, Warner Bros. thought they had a big hit action series with Road Rovers, which had six dogs given human speech and various skills and abilities. WB cancelled the show after one season, leaving it as a cult favorite.
Seventeen years later, Nickelodeon introduced PAW Patrol for Nick Jr.. Six new dogs, all puppies, with a 10 year old boy as the team leader. Some folks love it. Some critics are hating it for irrational reasons.
The reason we're talking it up now, with a movie due in a year's time, is because White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, aka the Duchess of Dumb, mistakenly claimed PAW Patrol was being cancelled. Not true, not with said movie and an 8th season on the way. McEnany did was she does best, embarrass herself in public, with her fountain of misinformation today.
Here's the intro:
I've actually seen pieces of the show in passing. Terrific CGI animation, mass age appeal. I don't get why people are hating on it. It does make older viewers like me wish WB never cancelled Road Rovers.
Rating: A.

Road Rovers came out in 1996, not 2006.
One reason why Paw Patrol has been receiving some hate lately could be because one of the lead puppies, Chase, is a police dog, an occupation that has been become unpopular with some folks in the wake of George Floyd's murder.
Another reason could simply be exposure; Paw Patrol is quite popular with the kiddies, and when that happens, a show gets a ton of merchandise (books, toys, games) bearing the show's images. Paw Patrol is one those shows that kids love, watch and quote endlessly, but could potentially drive their parents insane.
Myself, I've yet to see an entire episode of Paw Patrol. I've only seen clips of it on YouTube.
At least the dogs on Paw Patrol are cute, unlike the Road Rovers, who were unholy abominations of man and beast.
The Road Rovers were anthrpomorphic.
The Furries may like that, but I don't.
Apologies. What I meant to say in the above comment is that I personally prefer my cartoon animals to be "real" (albeit drawn) animals as opposed to half human man-things. Just my personal preference, though. No offense meant to anyone who likes the latter.
Hard to believe this show is on the air for SEVEN YEARS.
Steven: I fixed the error.
Goldstar: The hate is misplaced all because of a single police dog on the roster. Haters gotta hate, but when you're blinded by that hate, you lose all sense of logic. Take the current President, for instance.
Also, Road Rovers aired on The WB, not The CW.
Took care of that, too.
This show is basically Rescue Heroes but with dogs instead of humans.
So they say.
I heard this show is getting a theatrical movie adaptation in 2021.
I mentioned that in the initial post.
I'm surprised it's not a live action/CGI hybrid continuation movie like Dora and the Lost City of Gold or Disney's Christopher Robin.
Dora tanked, didn't it? Nickelodeon learned their lesson from that, methinks.
Actually, Dora did good at the box office and got an 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. Christopher Robin on the other hand got a 73% and did better at the box office than Dora did.
Better than I thought. Ok.
