It's been a while since we celebrated Cinco de Mayo, and so, we present Speedy Gonzales in "Chili Corn Corny".
Speedy tries to help a starving crow (Gonzales Gonzales), but has to deal with Daffy Duck.
I think now we know why the mid-60's era of WB cartoons has been frowned upon.

Yeah, I never liked this era of WB. I've got no problem with Speedy; I was OK with WB trying to give him more screen time, but I really wish they had chosen another character to be his main adversary. It was bad enough that Daffy Duck's jealous jerk persona went on to become his default mode for many years, but by this time the studio felt that Daffy should be a straight-up villain, which he wasn't. In these shorts he just became a one-dimensional mean bird whom you weren't supposed to feel sorry for. The earlier "crazy darn fool duck" persona of Daffy has always been my personal favorite (which the studio has thankfully finally brought back for New Looney Tunes and Looney Tunes Cartoons); part of me wishes that Daffy had retained that persona and the studio had given the 'jealous, greedy rival' persona to another character, like, say, Gabby Goat, who was already known for having a terrible temper and grouchy demeanor.
Unfortunately, Gabby had been forgotten and backburnered after his appearances in the Golden Age. A human adversary, like, for example, Elmer Fudd or Yosemite Sam, despite their history with Bugs Bunny, would've made more sense than a one-dimensional Daffy.
