Looney TV: The Daffy Duck Show (1978)

After years of playing second fiddle to Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck moved to NBC in 1978. That was the good news. The bad? Rather than have his series air opposite The Bugs Bunny-Road Runner Show on CBS and a loaded lineup on ABC, NBC placed Daffy at 12 noon (ET).

As the opening montage would imply, most of the cartoons either feature Daffy alone or with either Porky Pig or Speedy Gonzales, the latter of whom would later merit co-headlining status of his own a couple of years later.

Here's the 1st season intro, with narration by Casey Kasem.

Nearly 20 years later, Daffy would get another solo series, this time on Kids' WB!, but it lasted maybe a year, tops.

Rating: B.

NBC never really knew what to do with these cartoons.

That's certainly obvious, as this was the only time they had any Looney Tunes on their Saturday schedule.

It didn't help that the majority of the shorts featured on this show were the late 60's Daffy/Speedy era cartoons, which were easily some of the worst output in the studio's history. This was when the writers reduced Daffy to a one-dimensional meanie that we weren't supposed to feel sorry for; this might have been why NBC relegated the show to such a loser time slot.

That, plus most of those toons had been used many times over on Bugs' shows on ABC & CBS.

The lyrics alone state....

"You said you want to see a super show.
Yes you did!
You said you did!!
YES YOU DID!!!!"

Seriously, that's being desperate!

Cheesy, lame lyrics.
