Looney TV: Daffy Duck meets Drew Carey (1998)

Talk about stunt casting!

For the season 3 finale of The Drew Carey Show, Carey and co-executive producer Bruce Helford decided they wanted to test out the lunatic---or, maybe that should be, loonatic?---fringe, so Daffy Duck (voice of Joe Alaskey) comes looking for a job. Oh, sure, it's awkward, especially when Daffy tries plying his charms on Mimi (Kathy Kinney).........

Of course, Daffy didn't get the job. What did you expect?

I can't believe WB Archives hasn't picked up this series! I bought the first season and was horribly disappointed when WB dropped the ball (yet again).

Gee, you'd think they'd keep it going, since Drew's still busy (w/Price is Right)......

Yeah, when he first got the Price Is Right gig I had high hopes WB would take the opportunity to continue the Drew Carey Show on DVD, but no dice. BTW, that's another show I'd like to see more of on DVD, the Bob Barker years of The Price Is Right. All we got was one measly "Best Of" set.

In the case of Price, Fremantle Media owns the Goodson-Todman library now, and tested the waters with the Best of set. Did the same with Match Game, too, and maybe with others. Full releases depend, of course on sales.

A full review of the Drew Carey Show will show up over at the Land of Whatever soon.

I have that Match Game set too. I'm afraid I've become quite a '70s TV junkie lately.

Ah, a kindred spirit! I'd love to get my hands on the Match Game set myself, so I can laugh myself silly on a good day.

Wherehouse.com has a used copy right now for 12.99 plus shipping, as do several Amazon re-sellers. http://www.wherehouse.com/s/product/2653463/Best-of-Match-Game-4-Discs#.U_d7SPldU3k

Holding out for Walmart or some 2nd hand retailer, yo.

It's selling for $60 new at Amazon. Since this set has been out of print for awhile now (in fact, BCI/Eclipse went under after producing a series of fantastic game show and Filmation releases, of which I'm sure you're aware), I don't think that's going to happen at this point. I think they probably went out of business because they produced those special-feature laden sets. They are a joy to own and watch, obviously produced by people who loved the shows. They must have known the target market for their product was a niche market, but it's as if they didn't care if they made money, they just wanted to get the DVDs out for their own enjoyment. I'm glad they did, and with such great style, too. I really miss BCI/Eclipse.

Dreamworks Classic (formerly Classic Media) acquired the Filmation library, so maybe Fremantle now has the DVD rights to the G-T library.
