Getting Schooled: Wishbone (1995)

Eat your heart out, James Thurber. Walter Mitty never had it this good.

Wishbone, which produced 50 1st run episodes across two seasons on PBS (1995-7), put a twist on the Mitty story in that the title dog was doing the daydreaming, allowing for the writers to adapt any number of tales from literature or movies.

Here's the intro:

I tell ya, that theme music will still have you toe-tapping while it plays in your head. Reruns currently air on the PBS Kids digital channel.

Rating: A.

This definitely deserves its A+ rating!

THIS show should be back on the air (no PC/SJW crapola please!) ASAP!

This is the kind of show which encouraged reading and storytelling for children, but still kept the show from becoming too pedestrian for older viewers. Half the fun was seeing Wishbone in costume during his story time adventures and interacting with his human costars as if he were human! More importantly, you enjoyed the real world segments with Wishbone's owner and friends.

I also wonder if the show didn't also encourage a slight uptick in families looking to adopt Jack Russell Terriers as pets.
