Countdown to Christmas: A Flintstone Family Christmas (1993)

After a series of primetime specials brought The Flintstones back to ABC, Hanna-Barbera, perhaps, pun intended, caving to pressure from certain advertisers, would retcon out the wedding of Pebbles & Bamm-Bamm, and the subsequent introduction of their children, and revert the duo to their toddler state.

Their last appearance as adults was in 1993's A Flintstone Family Christmas, in which Wilma and a reluctant Fred adopt a homeless boy after he's been caught stealing. Unfortunately, Stoney, the adoptee, would also be retconned out.

A new series set in the Flintstones' universe has recently been announced entitled Yabba Dabba Dinosaurs, starring Pebbles & Bamm-Bamm. Warner Brothers seem to have split the difference with the characters: P&BB are still kids, but are older than toddlers for this series. They look to be about grade-school age here. Bit o'trivia: the character designs for Yabba Dabba Dinosaurs are being done by Mark Marek, the artist behind the Henry & June segments on Nickelodeon's Kablam!

I've read about that.

I can see why Stoney was soon rectonned out of the Flintstones franchise; there's no reason for that character to exist. He was a pretty pointless addition and he didn't bring anything to the table that Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm didn't already bring to the show. If the producers want Fred and Wilma dealing with a kid, they could just de-age Pebbles, which they eventually did.

Another bit o' trivia: Pebbles was originally going to be a boy named Rocky.

Which was why her daughter was eventually named Roxy. I'm going to see if I can find those specials......
