Saturday Morning's Forgotten Heroes: Herculoids vs. The Firebird (1981)

From Space Stars:

The Herculoids learn a lesson about not judging a book by its cover, shall we say, when they encounter "The Firebird". Keene Curtis narrates.

Now, would the Herculoids be brought back today? As we've previously seen, the dullards at [adult swim] disrespected the series by babyfying one episode, and trimming it down by about 2/3 of its original length. That, however, was at least 10 years ago, so if someone came along with a proposal that was an out-of-the-park hit with Warner Bros. suits, well.......!

Rating: B.

Despite CN's poor treatment of action adventure shows recently, I really think The Herculoids deserves a resurrection. I don't know how much backstory was created for the show by Alex Toth, but it could be great if we got to see more on the Herculoids' mystique and more on the planet Quasar/Amzot.

Of course I'm also holding out for a serious and updated Space Ghost revival - with the violence intact of course!

It would require someone who's got his own vision and not willing to compromise it to bring the Hercs back. Ditto for Space Ghost and the rest of the adventure heroes of the 60's.

I just hope the action and violence wouldn't be watered down as it was in these series of toons!

Watching it again, it seemed too easy for the Herculoids to be knocked down in battle. If this had been made in 1967, the group would have put a few dents in the interloper before sealing him up.

Had they waited a few more years, maybe they could've had this in syndication, without the restrictions, and then, you'd get the butt-kicking Hercs from the 60's, restored to their glory.

Would've been a good fit for the Funtastic World.
