Toons You Might've Missed: Commandments For Health (1940's)

In answer to WB's Private Snafu series, produced for the Army, independent producer Hugh Harman, who'd previously been with WB & MGM, was hired to create Commandments For Health, which used a mix of full & limited animation.

As the title implies, the series was about promoting good health habits for our military. The lead character in the shorts was a Private McGillicuddy (Mel Blanc, of course), who learns the hard way about his health.

As an example, we present "Native Food", from 1945:

I could imagine these shorts being used in schools back then, too.

Rating: B-.
