You Know The Voice: Joe Besser (1968)

After leaving The Three Stooges, Joe Besser resumed his television career, which included a stint as the building super on The Joey Bishop Show, and guest roles on shows as diverse as Peter Gunn and, in this case, That Girl. As was the practice of the era, Joe could be fitted into any small role that fit the situation du jour.

In this season 3 offering, Joe is a jury foreman for a trial in which Ann Marie (Marlo Thomas) is a juror. Hope Summers (ex-The Andy Griffith Show), Dave Ketchum (Get Smart, ex-Camp Runamuck) and ol' Mr. Whipple himself, Dick Wilson, who otherwise recurred on Bewitched, also guest star.

Joe made his toon debut on The Alvin Show seven years earlier, and would return to toons, beginning with The Houndcats in 1972. His best known cartoon role, of course, came a year later, with Babu, Jeannie's apprentice.

A while back the syndicated radio show When Radio Was featured an episode of the Jack Benny Program in which the cast was in New York to do some shows, and it happened to include Joe making a guest appearance at the tail end of the show...

I listened to it, and knowing his cartoon history it was kind fun to hear him in that era...

Incidentally, the show is carried where I am in Seattle on KIXI; where you are Hobbyfan, i'm not sure if there's a radio station that carries it... they do stream the shows on Radio Spirits website though.

I'd have to look up When Radio Was. I can access the Radio Spirits website or other sites that would have the particular episode.
