Saturday Morning's Forgotten Heroes: Captain Caveman in The Kooky Case of The Kryptic Keys (1977)

Our Famous First for November takes us back to 1977, and the debut of Captain Caveman & The Teen Angels. Imagine if DC Comics were able to gain a license to adapt Charlie's Angels, which was entering its 2nd season on ABC at the time, and pair the Angels with Superman for a miniseries or somesuch, this would be a parody of that combination.

Anyway, first up for Team Cavey is "The Kooky Case of the Kryptic Keys".

Edit, 11/18/2020: Dailymotion has deleted most, but not all, of the episodes. We are subbing in a series title card:

Vernee Watson (Dee Dee) was also on Carter Country at the time, coming over as she did from Welcome Back, Kotter. Too bad the Angels were never seen again after this series was cancelled.

Rating: B.

Trivia Time: we know that Cavey and the Teen Angels also served double duty as members of the Scooby Doobies team on Scooby's All-Star Laff-A-Lympics, which their series debuted on, but was is not commonly known is that they were last minute replacements for Melody, Alexandra and Alexander Cabot and Sebastian the cat from Josie and the Pussycats. HB couldn't secure the rights to use the Josie characters from Archie Comics, so the Josie characters were replaced with Cavey and company.

This was also Cavey's only appearance in modern times; shortly thereafter, he was transplanted to Bedrock as the Flintstones' resident superhero. HB must've thought this combo was a no-brainer, as the Captain is indeed a caveman, but his, shall we say, less than civilized nature caused him to stand out like a sore thumb in the land of the Modern Stone Age Family.

I think H-B's licensing deal with Archie had expired, and they tried to get a new one, but failed. Had they used the Josie characters, that would've meant double duty for Casey Kasem (Alex & Shaggy).

We've previously covered Cavey's adventures in Bedrock and elsewhere in the stone age.
