Saturday Morning's Forgotten Heroes: Donkey Kong, Jr. (1983)

Saturday Supercade may have been headlined by the villainous Donkey Kong, but his heroic son, Donkey Kong, Jr., takes the spotlight this time.

DKJ (Frank Welker) and his human best bud, a retro-greaser named Bones (Bart Braverman, ex-Vega$), travel the country in search of the elder Kong, whose own continuity more closely resembles his namesake video game. What results is that Junior & Bones end up running into one mystery after another (Welker's well acquainted with that, of course).

Here's the open:

Rating: None. Never saw the show.

A lot of things about cartoons back in the day make little sense.

Bad enough were the ripoffs of video games, worse still were the way off characterizations!

Why would Bones exist in 1983? A greaser type like him was long out of the loop. Some could say he was emulating The Fonz, but by '83 he was on his way out the door too. I didn't know anyone who dressed like this that wasn't in a theatrical production of Grease!

Just watching the first 2 minutes of this drivel made me realize someone out there tried to dumb children down on purpose - coupling it with super sugary cereals for added effect. Ugh!
