School's starting again soon, so there's a rush for last minute school supplies & clothes. That allows us to go back in time to the silliness of the 70's.
The folks at Bic are best known for pens & lighters. In the case of the former, they came out with the Bic Banana line in the 70's. Pens, crayons, markers. To shill for Bic, they hired actor Charles Nelson Reilly, who, around the time this was made, was a regular on Match Game after runs on The Ghost & Mrs. Muir & Lidsville:
Too bad Bic discontinued the Banana line by the end of the decade......

I'm guessing that Charles Nelson Reilly appeared in this commercial a few years before starring in Flmation's spoof on kids' shows "Uncle Croc's Block", which ran for a single season in 1975-76 on ABC.
Several sources say this was around 1970. I wasn't sure, so I just generalized it to cover the decade, but you're right, this was pre-1975. As I said, it might've been pre-Lidsville, too.
Welp, that doesn't tell us when Bic discontinued the Banana line, but at least it lasted a minimum of 5 years.
