Toonfomercial: Jonny Quest for PF Flyers (1964)

There was a time when BF Goodrich didn't just make tires. They also made sneakers for kids!

The PF Flyers came from Goodrich, and were pretty big in the 60's, but less so as I was growing up. I don't recall ever owning a pair of PF Flyers. Ever. Enough digression.

Anyway, BF Goodrich contracted Hanna-Barbera to use Jonny Quest for advertising to promote the sneakers. Scope it.

That has got to be one of the coolest commercials of its time!

Was it always in black & white? The show was animated in color after all.

The flyers seem an awful lot like the regular design of Jonny's shows from the series - coincidence I'm sure. They remind me of Keds - probably due to both having had the brand name on the heel.

If I'm not mistaken, Goodrich might've also had something to do with Keds, or created the Flyers as a rival to Keds. Both brands are no longer with us.

As for the ad itself, it was probably produced in color, too, but the only available prints are in black & white.
