Celebrity Toons: Life With Louie (1994)

Comedian Louie Anderson hasn't been heard from much since he was dropped as host of Family Feud a few years back. Anderson tumbled into that gig after the demise of his Fox cartoon series, Life With Louie, which launched with a primetime Christmas special in 1994, then began a regular run in 1995, following a summer 1-shot.

Anderson lent his voice to his juvenile self and his father, which will be evident as you watch the pilot episode, "A Christmas Surprise For Mrs. Stillman".

In all, Life With Louie lasted three seasons, even though it was being rotated in and out of the Fox lineup, as they had more series than schedule space for their Saturday lineup. Unfortunately, while the series was released on DVD overseas, it hasn't been given that treatment here, even though there were plans as much as 5 years ago. Hmmmmm......

Rating: B.

I preferred this to Bobby's World, and it seems like Louie created Life with Louie as a rebuttal to its sweetness.

Louie has yet to fully rebound from the disclosure of his sex-related blackmail episode (as well as drinking and gambling habits) that led to his leaving Family Feud, which is a surprise. I expected a "Paul Reubens" kind of recovery, but Louie's keeping a low profile (based on info from his IMDb page).

Considering his rough past, he may still feel sensitive about what all occurred, and he could be the only factor holding up a US DVD reissue of LwL.

So that's why he left the Feud.

Speaking of Bobby's World, that will be coming soon. You have been warned.

Louis Anderson is alive and well (sort of) in Las Vegas. He performs a comedy act five nights a week at the Palace Station Hotel.

Before that he had a similar gig at the Excalibur Hotel; apparently he downsized, even though the Palace Station is a great locals casino.

I didn't know about Vegas; thanks for that information, magicdog!

Did anyone see Louie on that celebrity diving show last year? Didn't realize he's already 60-something. Wow.
