Terrytoons thought they could repackage Dimwit as their answer to Disney legend Goofy. As "Daddy's Little Darling" shows, this was difficult.

I don't recall ever seeing any of the Dimwit solo shorts as a child, but in the case of them, in this particular short especially, comparisons to Disney's Goofy are inevitable. Dimwit is even an anthropomorphic dog like the Mouse House's world famous and beloved Goof!
From the looks of things, this one made it to TV as part of the Mighty Mouse TV package at CBS in the 50's & 60's. Dimwit went from being a foil to Heckle & Jackle to a Goofy knockoff, which kind of tells ya what happened to Terrytoons.
