Tooniversary: Spider-Woman in Realm of Darkness (1979)

Spider-Woman, the TV series, turns 45 this year. As previously discussed this was the last series produced by DePatie-Freleng before being bought by Marvel. The studio brought in Jeffrey Scott as a writer, which might've been a big reason why the series lasted just one season.

Anyway, Spider-Woman (Joan Van Ark, Knots Landing) locks horns with Dr. Strange's enemy, Dormammu, who wants to plunge earth into a "Realm of Darkness":

Scott was still writing for Hanna-Barbera at the same time, but this was not one of his better efforts. In the books, Dormammu was designed with a head of living flame, which ABC asked DFE to cover with a witch doctor's mask. Cheesy.

Rating: B--.
