On The Air: Tiny Toons Looniversity (2023)

The Tiny Toons are back, but now, they're in college!!

Tiny Toons Looniversity bowed on Max 2 weeks ago, with episodes airing on Cartoon Network on Saturdays. The gang's all here. Babs & Buster Bunny, now revealed as sister & brother. Plucky Duck. Hamton Pig. Dizzy Devil, and the rest.

However, the voice cast has been overhauled since the original Tiny Toon Adventures ended. Original cast members Don Messick & Joe Alaskey have since passed on. Charlie Adler, the original Buster, was not invited back, with Eric Bauza taking over. New voices for a new generation, I suppose. Since the show is on CN, that means it's also accessible on your cable system's On Demand service.

The following sample is a parody of a certain long running daytime soap that turns 60 this year. Here's "General Hogspital":

Edit, 9/28/23: CN decided to privatize the video. In its place is this promo card:

Rating: A.

Tiny Toons Looniversity is a reboot, not a sequel to Tiny Toon Adventures. This series takes place as though TTA never happened. None of the original voice actors from TTA returned to reprise their roles, except for Candi Milo, who instead of voicing Sweetie Bird is now voicing Granny (replacing the late June Foray), who here is the looniversity's dean, and also Witch Hazel, who so far has appeared in 1 episode.

I've seen the first 10 episodes of TTL on Max, and this series focuses mostly on Babs, Buster, Plucky, Hamton and Sweetie, who's role has been upgraded to main character status, while the other Tiny Toons characters show just show up when they're needed.

I did mention that they recast parts.

College students are certainly able to relate to what goes on in the episodes’ stories.

I can’t help but notice that TTA’s wackiest character, Gogo Dodo, was toned way down (and shown with wings). In fact, he was relegated to a silent incidental character who has no job being Acme Loo’s cuckoo for telling time.

And I believe Elmyra has yet to appear in a future batch of episodes - so far, she’s only been seen at the start of the title sequence.

I guess we have to keep watching, don't we?

I had to replace the video since it's been privatized.
