On May 1, [adult swim] will expand its block further into primetime, as it will now start at 7 pm (ET), where it currently runs from 8 pm-6 am 7 days a week.
As part of the announcement, two series are being added to the [as] library, likely ticketed for the 7-8 pm (ET) hour.
The previously announced My Adventures With Superman, starring 2nd generation actor Jack Quaid, is one.
Now, it might seem weird that My Adventures With Superman would be an unlikely candidate for [as], but considering that Warner Bros. Discovery frontman David Zaslav doesn't want it on HBO Max for some reason (proving again that Zaslav is an idiot), but the more [as] expands, the wider audience becomes more available with an established brand.
The other new entry is the latest from Genndy Tartatovsky (Primal, Dexter's Laboratory). Unicorns: Warriors Eternal appears set to launch on May 1 as well, and we can assume Superman will, too. Given Tartatovsky's track record at [adult swim] and Cartoon Network, they are banking on Unicorns being another big hit.
Ideally, you'd want Unicorns to go on first at 7 pm, followed by Superman, especially on Tuesdays, so that My Adventures With Superman would lead right into CW's Superman & Lois. We will see just how this will play out, though.

And I thought a DC superhero cartoon on [adult swim] would be a hard sell. That's what Silverstar told me a few years ago on the Teen Titans GO/Freakazoid crossover blog.
Times change, and so has the administration overseeing Cartoon Network/Boomerang/[adult swim]. I think they realize that people do want some action-comedy cartoons not named Teen Titans GO!, but feel they have to expand [as] to do so.
I also kind of wish they would play AS from 6 pm to 6 am instead of 7 pm to 6 am so I can have CN from 6 am to 6 pm. I also wish they would make AS and Toonami seperate channels similar to Boomerang.
There's a better chance of Boomerang being usurped by a 24/7 combo of Toonami and [as], since Da Boom hasn't really done much of late.

I did say that, but that was years ago, before the Discovery takeover, back when the 'Adult' part of [adult swim] meant TV-MA, like the DC Universe DTVs. I'm not exactly sure what it means now.
In an interview in Variety about 3 months ago, Michael Ouwleween, long time CN fixture and newly elected president of the network, said that going forward his and WBD's plan is for Cartoon Network to become more of a general all-ages animation network rather than continuing to compete with Nick and Disney for the coveted the kids' market, save for Cartoonito, which Ouwleween says will be the only portion of CN that's strictly for small fries.
My Adventures with Superman doesn't look like something that would air on [as]Toonami; years ago it might've aired on Miguzi, which with this and Unicorn Ouweleeen seems to be trying to re-create for [as]'s 7-8 (or 9)PM slot. This move is no doubt at least partially in response to [as] gradually losing the FOX shows to the Disney acquisition of FOX Entertainment.
I don't especially have a problem with this, except that, as my bro Goldstar pointed out on our blog, if we're now counting everything skewing to appeal to anyone older than 8 years of age as "adult", it makes the 'Adult' part of [adult swim]'s moniker basically a joke. On the upside, I know a lot of folks have been wanting to see action cartoons return to CN for a while now; if this is how can they get it, then I can't fault WBD entirely, but branding shows like MAWS as adult entertainment doesn't quite gel.
@Steven: Cartoonito ends at 12 noon now, so that leaves 7 hours for Cartoon Network until [as] takes over. Hopefully they'll make good use of that time.
[as] losing Bob's Burgers, Family Guy, and American Dad to FXX does force CN/[as] to have to retrench, but they have other shows in their library that haven't been used in a while that can fill the space. I think WB still owns Mission Hill and/or The Oblongs, for example. Both of those shows were buried in the overnight hours in previous [as] runs.
How is this show not [adult swim] materiel?
If Cartoon Network wasn't so obsessed with Teen Titans Go! and spamming it into the ground, they'd find a more appropriate spot on the schedule for My Adventures W/Superman and Unicorns. A different administration, and different ownership would see it in a more traditional sense.
