Darkwing Duck flaps again! (DuckTales, 2020)

After being reintroduced earlier in the series, Darkwing Duck appears in the season 3 DuckTales episode, "Let's Get Dangerous". Yes, that's Darkwing's catchphrase from the original 1991 series, and this, more than anything, is a back-door pilot for a new series that would be a spin-off from the current DuckTales.

Drake Mallard (Chris Diamantopoulos) was introduced as an up and coming actor hired for a movie about Darkwing, a radical change from the original concept. He adopts Gosalyn (Stephanie Beatriz, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) as his ward after her efforts to locate her missing grandfather, well, you'll have to see it to find out. Uploaded by DisneyXD's YouTube channel.

DuckTales' 21st century relaunch also created a shared universe for Disney's family of series from the late 80's and early 90's. Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera (Lin-Manuel Miranda), aka Gizmoduck, was rebooted as a Latino because the show's producers felt there hasn't been enough Latino representation in the superhero community, which is actually true.

I really have to catch up.

Rating: A.

This season the DuckTales producers seem to be to taking a cue from Disney's Marvel division and are attempting to create a Disney Afternoon-iverse, if you will. Donald's buddies Jose Carioca and Panchito Pistoles are recurring characters on the show (the Three Caballeros are a band on this series), Chip 'n' Dale's Rescue Rangers turned up in an Easter egg cameo this season, Goofy (in his Goof Troop/Goofy Movie mode) and the Genie from "Treasure of the Lost Lamp" have guested in an episode, Bonkers D. Bobcat has popped up in this Darkwing Duck crossover and TailSpin's Kit Cloudkicker and Molly Cunningham are slated to appear in an upcoming episode (albeit as adults); air pirate Don Karnage has already made 2 appearances on the show.

Since most Disney original animated shows usually don't go beyond 3 seasons, I suspect the producers want to go out with a bang.

You'd think that by now they'd realize that 3 years isn't enough, but they set their own rules, so...! I see that we finally meet the triplets' mom in the series, too, and they get Daisy into the mix as well.

Yeah, I think I need a DVD.

If they can put Darkwing Duck in the reboot, they should also put characters from Gargoyles in it too.

Right now, you have the Duckverse covering Chip 'n' Dale's Rescue Rangers, Bonkers, Goof Troop, Darkwing Duck, and TaleSpin. They're not going to include Gargoyles in it, I'm afraid. You have a better chance, and even this is wishful thinking, of having the Gargoyles meet Kim Possible.....

I could picture Disney doing a crossover between Gargoyles and Recess. Make it a sequel to Recess: School's Out where Dr. Philium Benedict From RSO teams up with David Xanatos. I'd call it Recess X Garogyles: Attack on Third Street AKA Benedict's Revenge. Plus, I could totally picture the Duckverse covering Gargoyles since the original Ducktales and Gargoyles were part of The Disney Afternoon. I'd say there's potential.

If I may chime in, I remember reading somewhere that there was a planned crossover of Gargoyles and Team Atlantis, the latter of which could have been a TV series if Atlantis: The Lost Empire had done well in box office. Of course, three exiting episodes are found in the compilation film, Atlantis: Milo's Return, much like Tarzan and Jane, which I'm pretty sure features three episodes of The Legend of Tarzan.
