There was a time when Fran Allison took a vacation from Kukla, Fran, & Ollie in the winter of 1951. By this point, the series was on the same network as Howdy Doody, NBC.
Radio & television personality Robert Q. Lewis stepped in to cover for Fran for a portion of February 1951. Ollie tries impersonating Fran to start, and, well..........!

ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what "blanks" you needed to fill in: the other Kuklapolitan players, like Buelah Witch, Fletcher Rabbit, Cecil Bill the stagehand (whom you never understood a word he said), Madame Ooglepuss, and a few others.
And Burr Tillstrom always made an in-person appearance at the close of every show ...
So maybe I ought to mention the announcer who opened and closed the show (and also did a few of the commercials).
He went on to some success in the business later on; you may have heard of him - Hugh Downs.
Before Hugh went national with The Today Show, Concentration, Over Easy, 20/20, et al. Cool.
