Retro Toy Chest: Remember Barbie's sister, Skipper? (1964)

Mattel continued to expand on their Barbie line by giving her a little sister.

Skipper was introduced just in time for the Christmas shopping season in 1964 in this ad. Janet Waldo (Valentine's Day) is the narrator.

    From those humble beginnings, Skipper has since been aged up to being a tech-savvy teenage brunette, and my favorite character on the web series "Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse". Currently, Barb has 3 youngers sisters: Skipper, Stacie and Chelsea. We profiled the Barbie Sisters in the first installment of Twinsaity's character spotlight miniseries, Pop Dream.
