By the end of the 50's, UPA was in trouble. Their distribution deal with Columbia had ended, and Columbia had moved on to work with Hanna-Barbera. Gerald McBoing-Boing was slowly being rejected by movie-goers, even with a crossover with Mr. Magoo.
So, the studio, with United Artists as a prospective new distributor, tried selling a new set of characters to networks or syndication. Bric & Brac, a rabbit & a mole, to be particular, were introduced in "Bric's Stew", which was pitched in 1960, though it had been copyrighted a year earlier. Ever-busy Dallas McKennon handled all the voices for this Harvey Toombs-directed short.
A rabbit that doesn't like carrots? Bric seems to be reluctant to have any. Toombs would later work for King Features on Popeye, while Sam Singer signed McKennon for Courageous Cat.

I was completely confused as to why Jerry Beck never uploaded the entire pilot to YouTube in 2019 instead of the first seconds of it.
ReplyDeleteIts use of animation-on-threes completely fit everything about the pilot, "limited animation" is not the problem, take a look at say, the "Smokey Bear"-anime from Rankin-Bass, its use of animation-on-threes is a thing of beauty, the coolest thing it also did is carry-over the use of the stop-motion-"eye-lashes-inside-of-the-eyes" aesthetic into traditionally-cel-animated-anime form!...in terms of finding more episodes beyond the first three which are available on YouTube.
Here is what this pilot says about the character-designs of Bric and Brac, Bric is nowhere as huggable as Brac! "That's a chicken?" XOD. "Don't poo-poo carrot stew!" XOD. I think one of the things Bric could have eaten is stuff his tum full of pears inside of a forest of pear-trees!
In terms of understanding which frameskipping of 24-frames-per-second actually fits a scene, 1977's "Raggedy Ann & Andy: A Musical Adventure" by Richard Williams is extremely notorious for looking too fluid!
Bric, wearing no top, has a something to him that does not work, in comparison to Brac wearing say a shirt. And coming to think looking at Brac's shape, Brac especially going off of his behaviour in the pilot is, kind-and-loving. Brac is an evil-and-kind-and-loving-father-mole, frustrating is that he never showed his never-existent-anus. I and what army? I and all of those who truthfully say: "theirbodieshugandcomfortthem".
Where is my army? Where are they? It takes sitting down with they who do those things for others, being able to speak to them, to interview them on why "theirbodieshugandcomfortthem" is the way it is. The long-story-short is that the kind-and-loving-mother-wolf is mating with her kind-and-loving-birthinfantson-fox, by sitting her kind-and-loving-barecrotch in front of his kind-and-loving-barecrotch, both sitting their kind-and-loving-barebottoms on the ground, she is hugging-and-comforting him.
If Brac, did this continue beyond the pilot, actually have his birthmother shown on screen, she could be his birthmother-mole, or his evil-and-kind-and-loving-birthmother-mole, or his evil-and-kind-and-loving-birthgrandphorother-and-birthgrandmother-kangaroo-and-evil-and-kind-and-loving-birthgrandphorother-and-birthgrandmother-wolf. What does the latter look like? Basically, from my understanding, his evil-and-kind-and-loving-birthgrandmother-wolf.
