The gay ...Wildboy was hot from what I remember...

The gay rumors came from the old, "Jump The Shark" site, where several posters had mentioned it. One poster in particular mentioned his father was watching the show with him, and immediately shut it down and declaring, "You shouldn't be watching that homosexual crap!".

Considering so many posters brought it up, there could be something to it.magicdoghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10755186050643383954noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-365564334433777661.post-9255278197471188072013-07-25T14:48:02.522-04:002013-07-25T14:48:02.522-04:00Bob Denver had reunited with Alan Hale on New Advs...Bob Denver had reunited with Alan Hale on New Advs. of Gilligan in 1974 (Filmation/ABC), but I don't think Hale'd been approached about Space Nuts. As I noted, Chuck McCann co-created the show with his friend Earle Doud (First Family), so it was a case of McCann choosing Denver to be his co-star, allowing Bob to cross Gilligan with Maynard G. Krebs (Dobie Gillis).

I've noted in separate reviews that had Lost Saucer & Space Nuts been on the same network (ABC or CBS), they could've done crossovers and/or a TV-movie to resolve the dual storylines, which were pretty much the same, actually.

Where did you hear of gay references in re.: Bigfoot & Wildboy? Seemed to me that Wildboy was a chick magnet......

hobbyfanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08089664500077967952noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-365564334433777661.post-50689071132678658982013-07-25T14:29:25.491-04:002013-07-25T14:29:25.491-04:00Oh where to begin?
I was introduced to Pufnstuff ...Oh where to begin?

I was introduced to Pufnstuff while in single digits and viewed many of the other Krofft shows that followed.

I liked The Bugaloos due to their British accents! Were they supposed to be fairies? I was never quite sure.

I remember Sigmund - largely due to the costume and his human friends always trying to hide him. I remember feeling sorry for him because even his own family didn't like him.

Land of the Lost was forever sealed in my brain! I knew the film styles didn't mesh but it was a fun premise. The 90s reboot was OK, but nothing spectacular. I'm not even going to talk about that travesty of a movie! I remember Wesley Eure got a bit of a big head - deciding to professionally go by his first name (like Madonna!). It really disappointed me when he came out a few years back. Never did hear anything from his co-stars or what became of them.

I remembered Space Nuts since it was essentially Josie & The Pussycats in Outerspace - without the music and only 3 people (well, 2 people and a "Honker"). I used to wonder if TPTB wanted Alan Hale to be Bob Denver's fellow space nut, since Chuck McCann pretty much acted much how the Skipper would have.

I remembered Lost Saucer since it was an intriguing premise but we never knew if the gang got back home. I also got annoyed by the eps being used as sounding boards for issues like pollution, etc. Plus - how can you not like a Dorse - of course!

I also remembered Bigfoot & Wildboy (Bigfoot was popular all through the decade and turned up everywhere it seemed!). I had heard the show glamourized homosexuality (why would a young man be palling around with a big furry?) but since I hadn't seen it since it went off the air, I can't comment on it.

As for the drug jokes, I can't blame some for thinking this. LSD, mushrooms, and other drugs were popular (Hollywood still has no shortage of drug buffets at any given time) and the wild imagery is often associated with drug trips. Sometimes certain things are subtle (due to TV restrictions) but become more readily recognized when the child grows up. Other times, it's as you mentioned - just a fertile imagination that is deemed to be drug influenced thanks to more cynical thinking.magicdoghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10755186050643383954noreply@blogger.com
