Animated World of DC Comics: An unexpected hookup (Justice League: Starcrossed, 2003)

Justice League ended its initial run with the story arc, "Starcrossed", which was later released as a stand-alone DVD. In it, we learn that Hawkgirl had secretly been a spy for her homeworld of Thanagar, and now the Thanagarians, or at least a hostile group of them, have decided to take over Earth. The League is forced underground, but circumstances force Wonder Woman (Susan Eisenberg) and Batman, as Bruce Wayne (Kevin Conroy) into action, leading to a very unlikely, and unexpected circumstance........

When the series resumed under the title, Justice League Unlimited, the subplot of Bruce & Diana as a couple was continued for a time, perhaps culminating in the episode, "This Little Piggy", portions of which have previously been used here. In the comics today, Wonder Woman and Superman are a couple, but the constant tweaking by DC editors may derail that in due course.

We previously reviewed "Starcrossed" over in The Land of Whatever several months back, and gave it an A-.

Starcrossed was a great episode and the scene showing the heroes trying to get to Wayne Manor without alerting the attention of the Thanagarians still keeps me on the edge of my seat!

I hate that the plotline for Bruce and Diana was dropped. They obviously were leading up to something and for some reason let it go. I'm not saying Bruce and she would have married, but I wouldn't have minded if they had a relationship for a while. As Brice once admitted, he has issues.

Personally, while this was cashing in on a shorter-term comics arc, pairing Bruce & Diana came a wee bit too soon. I'd rather they'd have tried a sequel to the Zatanna episode of B:TAS first.

And, then, of course, there's Catwoman lurking in the shadows....
