From Comics to Toons: Goddess Melody? (Josie & the Pussycats in Outer Space, 1972)

This is easily one of the most befuddling episodes of Josie & the Pussycats in Outer Space.

Naive, airheaded Melody (Jackie Joseph) is treated like a goddess on an alien planet, which may not exactly be a blessing for the rest of the gang..........

What Hanna-Barbera set out to do with this series was use the Pussycats in a send-up of Irwin Allen's Lost In Space. In an odd coincidence, the very next year, H-B was tasked to produce an animated adaptation of Lost In Space for ABC's Saturday Superstar Movie. It's funny how things work.

Rating: C.

This whole show should have been scrapped at the start! Both the writing and animation were poorer quality than the first season and changing the format to space adventures definitely was a bad idea for the Pussycats! I guess they didn't think they could keep going with the Bond-like adventures they had previously used.

Recall that in 1970 they had 2 series (Josie and Harlem Globetrotters) trodding the same ground. Changing the format for Josie didn't help the fact that it was a fish-out-of-water in the worst way. How Filmation blew it by not acquiring Josie is beyond me.
